Fiber Optic Patch Cords are typically used to interconnect various fiber optic components. The patch cords need to be properly matched with the components they are interconnected with, including using the correct connector type, and matching the same polish style. There are three primary polish styles used: PC, UPC, and APC. These describe the way the ends of the fibers are polished. PC (Physical Contact) is a flat polish with a slight curvature at the edges. It typically provides minimum return loss of -40 dB and is perfect for many data applications. UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) is also a flat polish with a slight curvature at the edges, but it is polished to a much more accurate surface and provides minimum return loss of -50 dB. UPC polishes are used for higher speed data links as well as for broadband RF applications. APC (Angled Physical Contact) polishes have a very highly polished 8° angle on them, and provide minimum return loss of -60 dB. APC connectors are used for high power applications as well as for broadband RF applications as they provide excellent return loss which minimizes reflections that can affect the performance of broadband networks.
Two of the most commonly used optical connectors are the SC and the LC connectors. They both snap into the mating connector, ensuring very precise alignment between the two fibers. The LC connector is much smaller than the SC connector, and has become standard for most high density optical installations.
PCT’s fiber optic patch cords are high quality, comply with Bellcore GR-326-CORE specifications, and are all dual window (1310 nm/1550 nm). They are made of high quality Corning optical fibers in 2mm and 3mm diameters with low insertion loss, low return loss, and are available with several connector types, different polishes, and multiple length configurations. These include SC and LC connectors, simplex and duplex construction, APC, UPC and PC polishes, with standard lengths of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, and 30 meters. Single mode and multimode fibers are available.
Fiber Mini Nodes
PCT has been providing high quality mini nodes for close to 10 years. These are manufactured with a number of different options, including receive only, two-way with both FP and DFB return lasers, different connector options, and mini nodes with optical filters built in for FTTH/RFoG applications. Please see the individual product pages for current options and availability.
